Classroom Tutors

We connect caring and committed volunteers with Waukegan elementary school students between first and third grades, who have been identified as needing extra one-on-one work to improve reading skills. Volunteer tutors help students get on track — and stay on track — with grade-level literacy.

When we help children read at grade level, we enable them to master more complex subjects needed to succeed in school and graduate.

Volunteer tutors spend 45 minutes to an hour in the classroom, usually dividing their time between two students under the supervision of a classroom teacher. Volunteers are asked to tutor a minimum of one session per week. We are always in need of bilingual Spanish speaking volunteers!
