EARLY LEARNING CLUBS

United Way of Lake County’s Early Learning Club (ELC) supplies Lake County children entering kindergarten with the basic skills they need to be ready and able to learn and supports parents as their child’s first and most important teacher.

ELCs occur at community locations such as churches, schools, libraries and community organizations.

“With generous funding from Women United, we were able to purchase eleven Chromebooks for our Early Learning Club program. When the children first used the Chromebooks, they were very timid and the parents mainly controlled the mouse. After the third class, the children wanted to control the mouse themselves. It was encouraging seeing them grow in confidence in their computer and early learning skills.

During the Early Learning Clubs, I instruct parents on how to teach their child at home. I demonstrate fun ways to use everyday objects as learning tools such as practicing making shapes with buttons or using building blocks to make letters. This program gives the parents ideas to make learning enjoyable and meaningful.” – Annalisa Teresi, Children’s Library at Waukegan Public Library
