KINDERGARTEN COUNTDOWN CAMP: MATH AND PANCAKES

This summer Sebastian learned how to make pancakes!

The experience was part of United Way of Lake County’s Kindergarten Countdown Camp (KCC), a free summer learning program for incoming kindergarten students who have little to no preschool experience.

Sebastian struggled with separation anxiety when he first entered KCC. Sebastian’s teacher, Ms. Chuga, helped him develop tools to manage his emotions in the classroom setting. Sebastian became accustomed to the classroom routine, grew more independent and created new friendships.

Sebastian’s favorite part of KCC was a field trip to Youthage Culinary Program where he and his classmates each took turns measuring ingredients to mix, cook and flip pancakes. Students also learned how to prepare a fruit salad with kiwi, pineapple, and blueberries.

Students then decorated their pancakes with the fruit salad and topped with a fun surprise…chocolate chips!
