Leaders United of Lake County (LULC) is a group of caring and committed young professionals on a mission to encourage philanthropy and volunteerism among their peers. The goal of LULC will be to impact issues that affect students and families across Lake County. This is also an outstanding opportunity for those who are seeking to build leadership experiences.

Host School Supply Drives

Help us ensure children are ready to learn! United Way of Lake County (UWLC) will coordinate supply drives with your company to provide the necessary resources to ensure better outcomes for children and families living in Lake County. School supplies are needed year-round!

  • Time frame dependent on host company
  • Requires wide company support

Kindergarten Countdown Camp

United Way of Lake County’s Kindergarten Countdown Camp is a free summer learning program for incoming kindergarten students who have little to no preschool experience. Volunteers assist the teachers in a variety of classroom tasks and work with students who are struggling.

  • High school/College student volunteers preferred; Summer-long commitment

Reading Success

We connect caring and committed volunteers with Waukegan elementary school students between kindergarten and 3rd grade, who need extra one-on-one work to improve reading skills.
We are always in need of bilingual Spanish speaking volunteers!

  • September - May ongoing commitment; 1 hour per week
  • Yearly recruitment occurs June - August

Women United

Women United is a women’s leadership group dedicated to service and early childhood education. Members are as active as their calendars allow, but engagement opportunities are ongoing. Attend a “Wine and Learn” to learn more about the group and their volunteer opportunities

Host a Winter Clothing Drive

Winter months brings a need for Winter Clothing. UWLC will help coordinate a clothing drive with your company to provide warm and weatherproof clothing necessary to keep children safe and comfortable.
